As soon as I could hold a pencil I've been drawing and it became a companion and therapy throughout a tricky childhood. School, college & university flowed artistically, followed by a 20 year career as a busy commercial artist, creating murals, art installations, window paintings and event decor. The 2020 lockdown challenged us all to reevaluate, so a move out of the city and back to rural life evolved into a return to my beloved equestrian and sporting art in the North Yorkshire landscapes.
I use different mediums for different styles of work. Acrylic works well for brightness and speed, and watercolour/mixed media for smaller portrait commissions however, the luxurious, silken depth of heritage oil paints can't be matched for quality of finish and when capturing the character of people and animals in paint. It takes longer, but it's so worth the wait!

I have been obsessed with horses my whole life, but never had the luxury of my own. As a child, I travelled the world with my father which gave me the opportunity to observe many cultures, to ride myriad horses across an assortment of landscapes and people watch in in far away places. The ideal grounding for a life of painting, illustrating and creating installations to delight people. My Dad moved to North Yorkshire when I was a teen, and that introduced us to the stoic world of farming, hunting and rural communities which has kept me busy painting and following hounds to this day. The tapestry of our lives, seasons, pets and loved ones constantly changes and capturing those important encounters has become my main inspiration to paint.
